Phyllis Diller - Heaven or Hell?

Anytime a famous person's death is published in the news, the first thought I have is, Did their eternal soul go to heaven or hell? Admittedly, I only know that I am saved and going to heaven and I cannot possibly know about anyone else.
However, I do know from the Bible that worldly fame can't take anyone to heaven.

The only one who can save is Jesus Christ. By faith in Him you can be saved, guaranteeing you a place in heaven for all eternity, regardless of your popularity, talent, or wealth.

Did Phyllis Diller ever place her faith for salvation in Jesus Christ and Him alone? Only she and God know that. The only thing that matters to her now is her relationship with Jesus Christ.

This is what the Bible says about how to be saved:
  • John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
  • John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
  • Romans 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
  • Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
  • Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
  • Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • Romans 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
  • Acts 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved ...
  • Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
  • John 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Being world-famous doesn't save anyone from Hell. Having a fortune in worldly wealth doesn't purchase a place in heaven.
God is not impressed with worldly fame, or great riches or professional talent.

God sent His only begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for Phyllis Diller's sins. God offered her the free gift of eternal life, if only she would believe on Jesus Christ and call out to Him for salvation. God gave Phyllis Diller 95 years to accept the free gift of eternal life.

Did she ever receive Jesus as her personal Saviour? If not, it is eternally too late for her.

But it is not yet too late for you.

She had been featured on TBN; some sort of show where Steve Allen's(?) wife interviewed her regarding her faith in Christ. There's reason to hope for her.

She was found dead by her son with "a smile on her face", so who knows? She may have had a spiritual awakening in her latter days. I do know that after a heart attack she suffered in the late 90s or early 2000s, she claimed that the experience reaffirmed her atheism as the doctors told her she actually died for a few minutes and her recollection as she was "going out" was nothing ahead but darkness - which she said she believed was indicative that there was nothing beyond this. Only five days before she died, I suddenly recalled my fondness for her from my childhood without any reason to me --- my great-grandmother and I would say our bedtime prayers together when I was very small, long before I knew she was an atheist. At the close of each prayer, my great-grandmother and I would ask God to bless each family member and, for whatever reason, I would always close with "...and Phyllis Diller!" after we would say the name of each family member. My great-grandmother thought it was cute and said to me one time, "Don't you ever stop praying for Phyllis Diller". Now, remember, that neither of us knew she was an atheist. Nor did I, at four-years-old, know what an atheist was. Anyhow, only five days before Phyllis Diller died, without hearing or reading anything recent at that time about her in the media or on television, I recalled this about what my great-grandmother told me. That night, I dreamt of Phyllis Diller. For two days I was in bed, sweating with a fever that peaked 101 degrees(!!!!), and tossing and turning, unable to get Phyllis Diller out of my mind. I woke up after having a second dream about Phyllis and burst into tears. I knew. So for what it was worth, for the first time since I was a little boy, I crawled onto the floor and on my knees, I prayed for the spiritual conviction and transformation of another human being. I prayed for Phyllis Diller to give her heart over to Christ and to accept God - for something to immediately lift the veil from over eyes and allow herself to know him and be forgiven. That was only five days before she died that it started and it lasted for two solid days. A Wednesday and a Thursday, I believe (?). She died on Sunday. It was strange. I felt from out of the blue, I had no choice. Her son reportedly found her at home, in her bed, with a smile on her face...but again only she and God know. Just an interesting tidbit I felt compelled to share here.
