On this date in '44,
Heroes left ships and waded ashore.
Gunfire erupted and many were killed
But the fire of courage burned hotter still.
They charged ahead through the fear and the pain.
Their lives on the line but a victory to gain.
Nothing could stop them, they'd win the day
We're the land of the free because they were so brave.
