Call me selfish if you want to

So as I was standing on the street for afternoon rush hour with my brand new sign which says,
IT IS A FEARFUL THING TO FALL INTO THE HANDS OF THE LIVING GOD,
the sky began to darken, the most glorious storm clouds began to churn, the wind started blowing, the lightening flashed, and the thunder rolled. A light sprinkle began to fall as rush hour came to an end. I got in my car, made it home, and as I walked in my front door the rain began to pour.

Call me selfish, but I like to think God did all that just for me. What a glorious time we had together on the corner today! Thank you God!

The Love of God

One day long ago nothing exploded and became all the universes.

30 minutes later

Earth cooled down and rain began to fall from somewhere

30 minutes later

Random substances spontaneously came to life and began to group together and reproduce

30 minutes later

Some cell groups became fish, others became sea snakes, crabs, etc. (Some somehow became female and others male (simultaneously), so reproduction continued.)

30 minutes later

Some of the male and female fish grew legs and arms (simultaneously) and walked out of the water onto dry land, figured out how to breathe the air, and live off the land.

30 minutes later

Some of them grew hair and started climbing trees, others grew feathers and wings and began to fly.

30 minutes later

Some of them in the trees decided to live on the ground, lost a lot of the hair, started walking upright, became self-aware, made clothing, learned to talk to one another, to think, to plan, to wonder, to imagine, to build.

30 minutes later

Here we all are.

Another tragedy is in the headlines today:  Sage Stallone, eldest son of Sylvester Stallone, found dead at 36

Another young life wasted and cut short - the suspected cause being a drug overdose.  How very sad!

This is yet more proof (as if we needed any more) that wealth and fame cannot buy happiness and will never provide contentment.  This young man had a very famous father with whom he had starred in movies.  This young man had all that the world has to offer readily available to him - yet it was not enough.  It could never be enough.
We see this over and over again among the rich and famous. They have money, glory, and fame, so why do they still reach for the alcohol and drugs, and why do they seek to have multiple relationships? Because no matter what they get from the world, it cannot fill the God-shaped void in their hearts.  Only God can fill that void.  Only God can provide the happiness and contentment people need.  Knowing God loves you so much that He gave His only begotten Son Jesus to die on the the cross for your sin can help you see that you have value in God's eyes.  We are all disposable in the world's eye - here today, gone tomorrow.  But in God's eye, we are all worth dying for.  Only in looking at the cross of Christ, where He sacrificed Himself for us, can we truly see the value that God places on us.

If Sage Stallone had known this great truth, if he had had a personal relationship with the One who died for him and rose again, perhaps he would not have needed the drugs to feel important or forget his sadness.  Perhaps he would have been content knowing Christ as His personal Saviour.  Perhaps he would still be with us.  Perhaps his father would not be suffering the immense grief he feels today.  If only Sage had truly known Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour - if only.

Celebrity chef Anthony Sedlak dead at 29

The headline reads, "Celebrity chef Anthony Sedlak dead at 29".

What a stark reminder that no one should put off making a decision for Christ because we have no idea how much time we have.
What a tragedy for a man this young to die so suddenly and unexpecteldy.  It is very sad to be sure.  Certainly no one expected it - no one saw this coming.

The big question I have is, Was he ready to meet God?  Only he and God know for sure.  I certainly have no idea.  I never heard his name until I saw the awful headline today.

What about you? Are you ready to meet God?  How much time do you have?  What will tomorrow's headline be?

If you are not 100% sure you are going to heaven when this life is over, you need to make sure today.  The Bible gives us God's simple plan for salvation.  There is only one way to heaven, and that is through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.  Please take the time to read the following from God's Word.

God loves you and wants you to be saved.

John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

There is only one way to heaven and that is through the Saviour Jesus Christ.
John 14:6 says, Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.


The Bible Way to Heaven:

1. Recognize your condition.
As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: (Romans 3:10)For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)

None of us is good enough to go to Heaven on our own merit. Because we are sinners, no matter how much good we do, we always fall short.

2. Realize the penalty for sin.
For the wages of sin is death... (Romans 6:23a)
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (Rev 20:14)

There is punishment for sin. The penalty for our sin is eternal death in a place called Hell.

3. Believe Christ died for you.Christ showed His great love for us when He died on the cross to pay our sin debt.But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)
Jesus, who never sinned, took our sin on himself, that we might be saved.For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. (2 Cor 5:21)


4. Trust Christ alone as your Saviour.
...but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23b)
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)
For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1 Cor 3:11)
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:9-10)
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13)

Everlasting life is a gift purchased by the blood of Jesus and offered freely to those who call upon Him by faith.
Let me help you word a prayer. (Realize that what saves is your faith in Jesus Christ, not saying mere words.)

Dear Jesus, I know I’m a sinner, and I cannot save myself. Please forgive my sins, come into my heart and save my soul from Hell. I’m trusting you alone to take me to Heaven when I die. Thank you for saving me, Jesus. Amen.


Please accept Christ as your Saviour today. Don’t delay. We’re not guaranteed a tomorrow.

Anytime a famous person's death is published in the news, the first thought I have is, Did their eternal soul go to heaven or hell? Admittedly, I only know that I am saved and going to heaven and I cannot possibly know about anyone else.
However, I do know from the Bible that worldly fame can't take anyone to heaven.

The only one who can save is Jesus Christ. By faith in Him you can be saved, guaranteeing you a place in heaven for all eternity, regardless of your popularity, talent, or wealth.

Did Ernest Borgnine ever place his faith for salvation in Jesus Christ and Him alone? Only he and God know that. The only thing that matters to him now is his relationship with Jesus Christ.

This is what the Bible says about how to be saved:

• John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
• John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

God is not impressed with worldly fame, or great riches or professional talent.

God sent His only begotten Son Jesus to die on the cross to pay for Ernest Borgnine's sins. God offered him the free gift of eternal life, if only he would believe on Jesus Christ and call out to Him for salvation. God gave Ernest Borgnine 95 years to accept the free gift of eternal life.

Did he ever receive Jesus as his personal Saviour? If not, it is eternally too late for him.

But it is not yet too late for you.

Andy Griffith - Heaven or Hell?
